Jump to: navigation, search
Crabtree Hall during September of 2008. Crabtree is an all-Freshmen dorm home to an Engineering RAP. The windows directly on the front is the lounge.

Crabtree is a co-ed residential hall in the Northeast residential area and the headquaters of the CMLK (Crabtree, Mary Lyon, Knowlton) Cluster. As of the Fall Semester 2008 Crabtree became part of various RFYE (Residential First Year Experience) dorms throughout campus and is the only First Year cluster in the North Area of UMass.

[edit] Engineering RAP

Though all floors are co-ed, the fourth floor, being the Engineering RAP floor, tends to be primarily male. In the Fall and Spring semesters of 2008/2009 the population was entirely male but one female resident, the peer mentor for the RAP. Residents living in the RAP would take CW (College Writing) 112 together and live with other engineers across the spectrum.

[edit] Layout

The layout of Crabtree is typical of any other dorm on campus. The first floor contains the Cluster Office, the Residential Academic Success Center, or RASC, the kitchen, and the lounge.

[edit] Kitchen

The kitchen contains an electric range, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster, a full-size refrigerator, in addition to a sink and towels. Though these supplies are readily available many students have many of these appliances in their rooms.

[edit] The Lounge

The Crabtree lounge is a large room complete with many small tables and an array of chairs and whiteboards. The room is intended for students to "get away" and study in a quiet place. More than often it becomes a place for movie night or the scene of "A useless pile of chairs."

[edit] Cluster Office

The CMLK Cluster Office is located right in the entrance to the building. There a student can do many things from signing out a key in the event they become locked out, retrieving packages sent via US Mail, or to take out equipment for games or cleaning. Jobs are available under the Work Study Program.

[edit] Basement

The Crabtree Basement is where residents get their mail and do their laundry. Also there is a pool table and air hockey table available for public use. In the other room there are couches, tables, a flat screen TV, and a bathroom. There is a study room located in the basement, but due to ventilation issues with the room, the doors remain locked.
