Mary Lyon is a co-ed residential hall in the Northeast residential area. It is part of the Knowlton, Mary Lyon and Crabtree cluster. The local cluster office is in Crabtree. Mary Lyon also housed the 2 in 20 Floor as well as a GBLT Floor in years prior to 2008. In Fall 2008, Mary Lyon became all-freshmen housing, as Northeast joined the First Year Experience program to offer freshman-only living.

Mary Lyon is situated in the Northeast area of campus. It's location is one of the more ideal since it's extremely close to the Worcester Dining Common, which contains a separate dining room called the Oak Room, primarily offering Asian-style food during the lunch and dinner hours. Worcester's basement is also home to a large, grocery-style convenience store as well as one of the four Pita Pit locations on campus. Although it doesn't have an elevator or a kitchen on every floor, Mary Lyon's basement is quite spacious, housing a plethora of rolling chairs, a flat-screened television, a ping-pong table, and a pool table. Also in the basement is an area for doing laundry and a kitchen. Mary Lyon hosts a small classroom on the first floor which proves to be an ideal place to study if you find that the library is simply too far of a walk.

Those who live in Mary Lyon have an excellent view of the volleyball courts and the entire Northeast Quad. Mary Lyon is one of the best places to live if you enjoy people watching from the privacy of your own room. However, when the weather is nice, it can be difficult to sleep in Mary Lyon due to the blinding lights outside and the hyperactivity of those playing frisbee or whiffleball in the quad. Residents of Northeast have been known to play these games until at least two in the morning.

Mary Lyon is one of three dorms with a two-word name; the others are John Adams and Van Meter.

[edit] Legend

The dorm is also home to the Mary Lyon Ghost. According to legend, in the early 1970s a girl hanged herself in the back hallway of the dorm, and now her ghost haunts the buildings' halls. Doors in the long hallways have been known to open by themselves (although this is probably caused by a slight natural unevenness in the building), and there have been rumors of ghost sightings over the years.
