Pioneer Valley

The Pioneer Valley is a section of Western Massachusetts through which the Connecticut River passes. It is located just East of the Berkshires. Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden counties are all part of Pioneer Valley. Amherst, Massachusetts, where UMass is located, is in Hampshire County.
The term "Pioneer Valley" is heard often in the Amherst area.
- The Pioneer Valley Transit Authority, or PVTA, is the company that operates the buses that run through UMass and the Five Colleges.
- The Pioneer Valley Advocate is one of the local newspapers, located in Easthampton, Massachusetts.
